Ford in the US will drop every non-SUV passenger car from its range, except the Mustang and Focus Active, citing declining sales and a lack of profitability.
In the company’s Q1 earnings call, it outlined “90 percent of the Ford portfolio in North America will be trucks, utilities and commercial vehicles” by 2020, and “will not invest in next generations of traditional Ford sedans for North America”.
By 2020, the Ford US car portfolio will consist only of the Mustang and Focus Active. The Focus Active is a raised version of the new Focus hatch with offroader styling, and goes on sale in the US from 2019.
Ford in the US will concentrate on crossovers, SUVs and trucks, and will in new battery electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid drivetrains for F-150, Mustang, Explorer, Escape and Bronco.
