The Lexus CT will not be produced or sold in the USA after the 2017 model year, although the car will live on elsewhere with a second facelift.
Based on the previous generation Toyota Prius, the Lexus CT is the brand’s entry level model, and competes with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class/CLA, Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series/2-Series.
Hatches aren’t popular in the US, and hybrids have suffered with low gas prices.
In 2016, 8,903 Lexus CT hatches were sold in the US. The Mercedes-Benz sold 25,792 CLAs, Audi sold 31,538 A3s, and BMW sold 15,519 2-Series coupes and convertibles.
Lexus buyers looking for an entry level car have looked past the CT, and jumped straight into the NX SUV. 54,884 NX crossovers were sold last year in the US.
