Mitsubishi’s American dealers are keen for a pickup truck in their showrooms, and the L200/Triton fits that bill, but it may never arrive Stateside.
Don Swearingen, COO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, told reporters that his dealers are keen for a pickup truck to join Mitsubishi’s range.
The L200/Triton pickup truck would be a good fit for the company’s expanding range of SUVs, and would go into a segment that’s growing thanks to the new Toyota Tacoma, and renewed competition from GM with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.
But, the L200/Triton isn’t engineered or certified to be US compliant — an expensive task. It would also be fully imported, and would face a chicken tax if sold here.
