Production of the MK Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot ended on December 23, 2016 at Belvidere, Illinois, 10 years after the SUVs first went into production.
The Patriot (above) will not be directly replaced, but the Compass name will live on with a second generation model that was unveiled in 2016.
The new Compass uses a version of the Jeep Cherokee platform, which also gave us the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. The new Compass (below) will not be built Belvidere, Illinois factory.
Fiat Chrysler is shifting production at its North American factories around. The Belvidere, Illinois will begin production of the current Cherokee during 2017 as part of US$350 million investment in the facility.
The Cherokee’s current factory will be turned over for the next generation Wrangler.
