A totally stock 2017 Kia Niro has been driven 3,715.4mi (5797.4km) from the West Coast to the East Coast on just 4.1 tanks or 48.5 gallons (183.6L) of gas.
That means the Niro EX had an average of 76.6mpg (3.1L/100km).
The trip was taken from Los Angeles City Hall to New York City Hall, and was driven by Wayne Gerdes and Robert Winger.
As The Truth About Cars has revealed, Gerdes, journalist and founder of the CleanMPG forum, was paid in the past by Volkswagen during two hypermiling runs in diesel vehicles that ended in new Guinness world records being set.
It’s not known if Gerdes was paid for this world record attempt.
