2017 Nissan Note axed in Europe; K13 Micra boring, says marketing chief

The E12 Nissan Note, built in Sunderland, UK, will be withdrawn from the European market in 2017 in favor of the Juke and the new K14 Micra.

Guillaume Cartier, Nissan Europe’s head of sales and marketing, told Automotive News Europe the company stop production of the E12 Nissan Note (above) in Sunderland from spring 2017 as subcompact minivan market was shrinking rapidly.

Its place in the range will be taken up by the Juke SUV, and the new K14 Micra (below), based on the Renault Clio. The new K14 Micra will replace the K13, one of the smallest cars in the segment, and become one of its largest.

“I use the image of the casino. If I bet on many squares I never win a lot. Now I’m betting on one square,” Cartier told Automotive News Europe.

Cartier admitted that “the current Micra is more a mode of transportation than a passionate car”, and that “if we want to perform, let us focus on the core and make sure we invest to have the best-in-class car.”
