The second generation Honda Freed has gone on sale in Japan, with the choice of 5 and 7 seat models, and a 1.5-liter I4 in hybrid or non-hybrid forms.
The all new second generation rides on same length wheelbase as the original Freed, which debuted back in 2008. It is 50mm (2 inches) longer overall, and has an all new body, and a new platform based on the latest Fit/Jazz hatch.
In Japan, the new Freed is available with a 1.5-litre I4 with a CVT, or as a hybrid with a 7-speed DCT and a 1.5-liter I4.
There are two basic Freeds to choose from, a 7-seat Freed, and a 5-seat Freed+ that has a more versatile trunk with a larger false floor area, slightly longer overall length by 30mm (1.2 inches), and a tailgate that opens 145mm (5.7 inches lower).
The new Honda Freed starts at ¥1,880,000 (US$18,500) for the FWD 6-seat Freed B with a 1.5-liter I4, and goes up to ¥2,748,200 (US$27,000) for the AWD 5-seat Freed+ with the hybrid drivetrain.
