The second generation Audi S5 Sportback has a new direct injection 3-liter turbo V6 gas engine and AWD, but looks eerily similar to the original.
Under the hood there’s a new direct injection 3-liter turbo V6 gas engine with 264kW (354hp), and 500Nm (369 lb-ft) from 1,370 to 4,500rpm. There’s an all-wheel drive quattro system with a slight rear axle bias, and an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic as standard.
The S5 is able to do 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds, and has electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155mph). Fuel economy is rated at 7.3L/100 km (32.2mpg), which in CO2 emissions terms works to be 166g/km.
Standard wheels are 18‑inch with 245/40 tires. 19-inch alloy wheels are optional. There are 350mm ventilated front disc brake discs, and optional 6-piston fixed brake calipers in either black or red.
Handling is helped by standard S Sport suspension, and wheel-selective torque control, and an optional sport differential that actively distributes torque between the rear wheels.
A fully specified Audi S5 Sportback includes an 8.3-inch MMI infotainment screen, MMI touchpad controller, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Bang & Olufsen sound system, Audi tablet rear seat entertainment system, and Qi inductive phone charging.
The S5 goes on sale in Europe at the beginning of 2017 with a starting price of €62,500.
