The beautiful RWD Buick Avista concept was beloved by the media and showgoers, but a certain faction within GM was much less happy with its debut.
A member of the GM Inside News forums, and GM employee, claims that the Buick Avista concept caused a lot of tempers to flare, especially among the team responsible for the Chevrolet Camaro.
The Buick Avista concept made its debut at this year’s Detroit Motor Show in January, not long after the evolutionary sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro made its debut to lukewarm enthusiasm.
Team Camaro believed that the Buick concept was taking away precious limelight and media coverage from its own car, which would actually make it into showrooms.
Both the Camaro and Avista concept are based on the RWD Alpha platform, shared with the Cadillac ATS and CTS. If the Avista makes it to production it would be positioned as more of a luxury car, but there would definitely be overlap in the demographics.
