The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD gains a new a ram air hood scoop that feeds plenty of dried out air into the Duramax turbo-diesel engine.
The new ram air inlet on the hood provides 60 percent of the air into the Duramax engine. As the air from the inlet is close to the outside ambient air temperature, and much cooler than the air inside the engine bay, it maximizes engine performance.
To keep the air from the scoop clean and dry there’s an air/water separator, and a 180 degree bend before the filter housing that helps moist air to collect on the wall of housing before being drained away.
The remaining 40 percent of the air comes from a position inside one of the fenders, and ensures that the engine keeps functioning even if the hood inlet is blocked.
