2017 Fiat 124 Spider: Starts at $25k, hundreds off MX-5 Miata

Pricing for the Fiat 124 Spider, including the Abarth model, has been released in the US, and it’s surprisingly close to that of the Mazda MX-5 Miata it’s based on.

The starting MSRP for the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider in the US begins with the US$24,995 Classica model. Next up is the US$27,495 Lusso, with the top of the range, more powerful Abarth starting at US28,195.

Both the Classica and Lusso are powered by a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo 4-cylinder engine with 160hp (119kW) and 184 lb-ft (249Nm). A 6-speed manual and RWD is standard, a 6-speed auto adds US$1,350.

The Classica has standard 16-inch alloy wheels, black cloth seats, and LED taillamps. The Lusso adds 17-inch alloys, silver painted A pillar trim and roll bar covers, black or brown leather seats, and twin chromed exhaust tips.

The American Abarth is rated at 165hp (123kW) and 184 lb-ft (249Nm), which is a fair bit less than Abarth 124 Spider models in Europe and elsewhere. Again a 6-speed manual is standard, with the 6-speed auto adding US$1,350.

Standard equipment on the Abarth includes Bilstein suspension, a mechanical limited slip differential, front strut tower brace, quad exhaust tips, mode selector, 17-inch gun metal alloys, and gun metal accents. Options include gun metal hood stripe, Brembo brakes, and Recaro seats.

There’s also a Prima Edizione Lusso limited edition for US$35,000, which includes exclussive Azzurro Italia blue paint, brown leather seats, badging, and matching blue leather bag, journal, pen, and poster.

In the US, ND Mazda MX-5 Miata comes standard with a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine with 155hp (116kW) and 148 lb-ft (201Nm), with either a 6-speed manual or auto. Pricing starts at US$24,915 for the entry level Sport, US$28,600 for the Club, and US$30,065 for the Grand Touring.
