Porsche has taken the 283kW 3.8-litre boxer six from the rear-engine 911 range, plonked it into the mid-engine coupe to create the Porsche Cayman GT4.
Mounted behind the driver and passenger is a 3.8-litre flat-six engine similar to the one used in the 911 Carrera S. For the Cayman GT4 it generates 283kW (385hp) that’s sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
That’s said to be good enough for a 0-100km/h time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 295km/h. In addition Porsche claims that the new Cayman GT4 can lap the Nordschleife (north loop) of the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 40 seconds.
Compared to other Cayman models, the GT4 sits closer to the ground and uses many chassis components from the 911 GT3. It also features larger air intakes all around, a fixed rear wing, grippy sports seats clad in Alcantara and leather and a new steering wheel.
Options include ceramic brakes, CFRP (carbon fibre-reinforced plastic) shell seats, and a unique Sports Chrono package.
Fuel economy is claimed to 10.3L/100km.
