2022 Ford F-150 Lightning: EV pickup under $40k, but good stuff will cost

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is grabbing attention for all the right reasons (innovative features, starting price) but there are catches.

Prices start under $40k without the $7,500 federal tax credit or local/state tax credits, but a specced out model with the extended range battery and more powerful powertrain will cost over $90k.

The standard model has 425hp (317kW) and 775 lb-ft (1,051Nm), AWD, and a 230mi (370km) EPA range.

The extended range model beats the Raptor in many ways at it has 563hp (420kW) and 775 lb-ft (1,051Nm), AWD, and 483km (300mi) EPA range. It also has a 0-60mph in the mid-4 second range.

The F-150 Lightning supports 150kW DC fast charging, and can operate as a 9.6kW power generator, which can run a standard home for up to 3 days.

Without a V6 or V8 engine at the front, the F-150 Lightning has a huge 14.1 cu-ft (400L) frunk under the hood which can hold up to almost 400lb (180kg) of stuff.
