2022 BMW 2-Series vs 2014-2021: G42 vs F22 differences compared

G42
F22
The new 2-Series coupe has the new CLAR architecture shared with the 3-Series and others. The wheelbase and overall length have been increased, but the same proportions as the car it replaces.
G42
F22
It's just been beaten over the head with the ugly stick repeatedly. The sides have flat surfaces accentuated with fender blisters, which would look great on a Nissan GT-R, but are just pure fugly here.
G42
F22
The rear has gone from chunky and purposeful to chunkier and ugly.
G42
F22
We do like the purple on this car, and it does hide a few of the design sins.
G42
F22
The headlights now have one main lighting unit, and a much smaller. Too small for the bulky design.
G42
F22
The smaller headlights do allow for even wider headlights.
G42
F22
The taillight graphics are like the facelifted X3's and a much more complex than the F22's. The taillights are much too small for the chunky rear styling.
G42
F22
The interior has upgraded to current BMW norms, and is completely uncontroversial. There's a touchscreen infotainment system, and a completely digital instrumentation screen available.
G42
F22
A shiny rear 'diffuser' has oddly shaped exhaust tips instead of round units.
G42
F22
The mirrors have been given the full M treatment, for the worse.
G42
F22
Manual transmissions have been deleted from the 2-Series coupe range, and there will be no convertible companion. The M240i is also only AWD now, but power is up 25kW (34hp) to 275kW (369hp) and torque is the same at 500Nm (369 lb-ft).
