Volkswagen USA will plug the gap between the LWB Tiguan and the 7 seat Atlas with the new 2020 Atlas Cross Sport, which also gains sportier styling.
Built in Chattanooga, TN, the 5 seat Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is 2.8″ (71mm) shorter and 2.3″ (58mm) lower than the 7 seat Atlas. It keeps the 117.3″ (2,979mm) wheelbase on the 7 seat Atlas though.
The Cross Sport has a “coupe” rear end, and a restyled front with a new, more dynamic grille. There’s also a new steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging, traffic jam assist, and dynamic road sign display.
The Atlas Cross Sport is available with a 235hp (175kW) 2L turbo I4 or 276hp (206kW) 3.6L VR6. Both come with FWD and an 8-speed auto as standard, with AWD optionally available. The V6 can tow 5,000 lb with the optional V6 Towing package.
Sales start in the spring of 2020, and pricing will be announced then.
