The 2020 Toyota Yaris hatch for the US is Mazda 2 with different headlamps and an ugly fish mouth grille, and is a big upgrade from the old model.
This new car is not exactly a surprise. The Yaris sedan (formerly the Yaris iA and Scion iA before that) sold in North America was a Mexico built Mazda 2 with a new, and ugly, front end.
Although the previous generation hatch has been given updates for the European and Japanese markets, it wasn’t deemed suitable for the US. Neither was the developing market model sold in Asia and Latin America.
The 2020 Yaris has a standard 1.5L I4 with 106hp (79kW) and 6-speed automatic.
Available features include autonomous emergency braking, stability control, a 7″ touchscreen with CarPlay and Android Auto support, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, satellite navigation, 16″ wheels, keyless entry, and push button start.
