The second generation Land Rover Defender will go on sale in the US and Canada in 2020 after making its global debut in 2019.
The original Defender went out of production in January 2016 after a run of 33 years. Over that time small changes were made over three Series, but looked fundamentally the same.
The original Defender was sold in the US and Canada between 1993 and 1997 with a 3.9L V8 and a manual transmission. The extensively revised NAS (North American Specification) models were available in 2-door 90 and 4-door 110 forms.
“On behalf of Land Rover and our retailers, we are proud to announce the voices of American and Canadian customers has been heard: The all new Defender will be for sale here starting in 2020. This announcement is a holiday gift to our Defender fans in North America and a hint of what’s to come in the New Year,” said Kim McCullough, head of marketing for Jaguar Land Rover North America.
