The 2020 Kia Ceed Sportswagon PHEV is a very handsome (we say sexy) compact estate, but the plug-in hybrid powertrain is about efficiency not speed.
That’s because it only has a total of 104kW (139hp) and 265Nm (195 lb-ft) from its 1.6L gas engine and 44.5kW (60hp) electric motor.
They drive the front wheels through a 6-speed DCT, but performance is leisurely at the very best with 0-100km/h taking 10.8s.
The 8.9kWh battery pack means there’s an electric driving range of 60km (37mi) though. The battery and a 37L (9.8 gallon) fuel tank lie under the trunk floor.
There’s 437L (15.4 cu ft) of cargo space speed with rear seats up, and up to 1,506L (53.2 cu ft) when the 40:20:40 split-fold seats are down.
The Kia Ceed Sportswagon PHEV goes on sale in Europe from 2020.
