A BMW 7-Series coupe is being planned to help lift sales of BMW’s top line model, with the new model trailing well behind the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Bloomberg is reporting that the new coupe could be on sale as soon as 2019. The current G11/G12 7-Series that went on sale this year is only just ahead of the Tesla Model S, and 40 percent behind the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Not so long ago, the S-Class and 7-Series were neck and neck.
The insider blames the G11/G12’s poor sales on a lack of eye grabbing new technology, and boring design. That, and a lack of variants compared to the S-Class, which is available as a SWB and LWB sedan, coupe, and Maybach and Pullman extended wheelbase models.
