The new 2020 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is the company’s competitor for the Mercedes-Benz CLA, and like its competitor it has a FWD/AWD platform.
It’s not the first FWD/AWD sedan from BMW, there’s already a 1-Series sedan for China. The new 1-Series hatch and sedan, 2-Series Gran Coupe, X1 and X2 are all based on the UKL FWD/AWD platform shared with Mini.
At launch there will be three powertrains for Europe (218i, M235i xDrive and 220d), and two for the US (228i xDrive and M235i xDrive).
- 218i: 1.5L turbo I3 with 103kW (140hp), 220Nm (162 lb-ft), 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT
- 228i xDrive: 2L turbo I4 with 170kW (228hp), 350Nm (258 lb-ft), 8-speed auto
- M235i xDrive: 2L turbo I4 with 225kW (306hp), 450Nm, 8-speed auto
- 220d: 2L turbo-diesel I4 with 140kW (190hp), 400Nm, 8-speed auto
