Production of the 2019 Honda Insight production has begun at Honda’s factory in Greensburg, Indiana. All Insights for the North American market will be made here alongside its Civic and CR-V platform mates.
Based on the Civic, but with different body panels, the new Insight is the first dedicated hybrid model to be built in North America by Honda.
The new Insight has a dual motor hybrid system with a 1.5-liter I4 Atkinson cycle engine. It makes 151hp (113kW) in total, and has predicted city EPA rating of 55mpg (4.3L/100km).
In order to make the new Insight, Honda invested US$32.5 in the Greensburg, Indiana, factory, which gained a new 19,200 square foot building expansion, and the ability to make front end modules in house.
The Insight’s lithium-ion battery pack is made in Marysville, Ohio, at the same site as the 2019 Accord. The Insight’s 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine is made in Anna, Ohio. The hybrid’s twin electric motor unit is made in Honda’s transmission factory in Russells Point, Ohio.
