The Genesis G70 has won the 2018 Motor Trend Car of the Year award as it for cheaper, punchier, more cohesive, and more fun than the BMW 3-Series.
The magazine was especially impressed by the 3.3L twin turbo V6 edition, which is several thousand dollars cheaper than its immediate German, Japanese and British rivals.
Editors at the publication praised the G70’s dynamics, “very upscale interior”, and the performance of the 3.3L twin turbo V6. They did say the G70 is heavier than its competition, and the 2L turbo I4 is on the slow side.
The new Genesis G70 finished ahead of Buick Regal, Ford Mustang, Ford Transit Connect, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Clarity, Kia Forte, Lexus ES, Lexus LS, Mercedes-Benz CLS, Nissan Altima, Toyota Avalon, Toyota Corolla hatch, and Volkswagen Jetta.
