2019 Ford Focus Active not coming to the US because of China tariffs

The 2020 Ford Focus Active isn’t coming to the US after all. The car was due to imported from China after North American production of the current car ends.

That plan isn’t viable any more due to President Trump’s trade war with China and the 25% tariff he’s placed on cars imported from China.

“Given the negative financial impact of the new tariffs, we’ve decided not to import this vehicle from China,” Kumar Galhotra, Ford’s North American president told The Detroit News. “The significant thing that moved was the tariffs going up substantially higher. We’re choosing to deploy resources elsewhere.”

The Mark IV Focus Active is a hatch with 30mm (1.2″) higher suspension, fender protectors, and other bits of offroader styling.

Earlier this year Ford announced it would axe all traditional passenger cars in the USA (eg. Fusion, Focus, Fiesta, C-Max) except the Mustang. These cars would be replaced by SUVs.
