The new 2018 model year Subaru (XV) Crosstrek is based on the fifth-gen (GT) Impreza hatch. See the differences in this side-by-side photo comparison.

The new XV/Crosstrek has a unique grille that's deeper, darker and chrome-free. The soft-roading hatch also has a new front bumper. Under the bonnet there's a 4-cylinder boxer engine tied to an all-wheel drive system. The XV/Crosstrek does have active torque vectoring and selection X-Mode for better handling of off-road situations.

As you'd expect, the XV/Crosstrek has raised suspension, wheel arch protectors, and plenty of grey plastic for the sills, protectors, and front and rear bumpers. The XV/Crosstrek has ground clearance of 220mm (8.7 inches).

Again there's a new bumper with a pronounced lower section of grey plastic cladding.

Aside from tech and specification differences, there's practically no difference between the interiors of the Impreza and XV/Crosstrek.

Both the regular Impreza and the XV/Crosstrek have five seats, and a split-fold rear seat that lies flat.
CrosstrekXV
For the North American market, which branded the previous model as the XV Crosstrek, the XV name has been dropped completely. Elsewhere, the high-riding Impreza is still sold as the XV. Almost everywhere, the XV/Crosstrek is marketed as its own distinct model, despite being quite clearly a gussied up and raised Impreza hatch.
