The second-gen Leaf, launching late 2016 as a 2018 model, will have a range of about 200 miles (320km), pitting it against the Chevrolet Bolt and Tesla Model 3.
The 2018 Nissan Leaf will be available with a 60kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and could have a range of up to 210 or 220 miles (340 to 355km).
Kazuo Yajima, Nissan’s director of EV engineering, told Autoblog that such a Leaf was “coming” and committed Nissan to producing “an electric vehicle that doesn’t have any driving range problem”.
The current Leaf has a 24kWh battery in the US, and has an EPA range rating of up to 107mi (172km).
