2018 Jeep Compass (Type 551): Dimensions, details and 104 photos

Although the new Jeep Compass won’t go on sale in the US until Q1 2017, we now know a lot about because it’s available in Brazil.

In Brazil, the new Jeep Compass is available with two engines to start with. There’s a 2.0-liter Tigershark 4-cylinger gas engine with 166hp (124kW) that’s E85 capable and a 6-speed auto.

There’s also a more expensive 2.0-liter MultiJet turbo diesel with 170hp (127kW) and a 9-speed automatic. American Compasses won’t feature a diesel, but there should be turbo gasoline options.

The new Compass is roughly the same size as the first generation model. A little smaller in most dimensions except width.

Four grades are available Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. The Trailhawk model has standard all wheel drive and 0.8-in (20mm) taller suspension.

The Brazilian Compass has 5-inch or 8.4-inch uConnect infotainment system, 3.5-inch or 7-inch instrument screens, 17 or 18 inch alloy wheels, and optional xenon headlamps.

Prices start in Brazil start at R$99,990 (US$31,100) for the FWD Sport Tigershark, and go to R$149,990 (US$46,600) for the Trailhawk diesel. It will naturally be a lot cheaper here in the US.
