The seventh generation Hyundai Sonata is safe, dependable family transport, but it’s duller than dull. For 2018, it’s been given a sporty facelift.
Designed in California, the Sonata facelift has new headlamps, grille, hood, bumpers, trunk lid, and taillamps. You can see the differences in our side by side photo comparison.
The standard engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 185hp (138kW) and 178 lb-ft (241Nm), and a 6-speed auto. The 2-liter turbo I4 has 245hp (182kW), and a new 8-speed automatic.
There’s a stiffer rear suspension on all models, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
New safety features include lane departure warning and lane keeping assistance. The Sonata has 7 airbags, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert as standard.
