2018 Hyundai Azera (US) debuts in Korea as the Grandeur IG, looks great

The new Hyundai Azera, which goes on sale in the US in 2017, has been unveiled in South Korea as the new (IG) Grandeur, and it looks sporty and great.

That’s some achievement considering that it’s based on a stretched version of the Hyundai Sonata platform, and the new Azera/Grandeur uses the company’s latest, more conservative, design language.

Like the current Azera/Grandeur, the new large, luxury FWD sedan has fender bulges not seen on the smaller Sonata. The taillamps of the new Azera/Grandeur are almost stolen straight from the Dodge Charger, and have the same racetrack LED design.

Hyundai doesn’t say what engines are under the hood, but V6 engines for the US are likely. An I4 turbo is possible too.

In Korea, where the Grandeur goes on sale later this year, it will probably also feature an I4 hybrid and an I4 turbo in addition to V6 engines.

The Azera/Grandeur won’t be sold in Europe and many other markets because the new Genesis luxury brand takes over the role as Hyundai’s lux offering.
