Screw subtlety, the Honda Civic Type R Prototype turns it up to 12 and previews the 2018 hot hatch, which is finally coming to the US in 2017.
The new Civic Type R Prototype has bulging front and rear fenders, an over the top aero package with wings that shout “look at me!”, red accents, diamond mesh inserts, three central exhaust tips, red H badges, LED headlamps, a hood scoop, carbonfiber side skirts, 20-inch piano black alloy wheels with red stripes, and 245 section performance tires.
Honda hasn’t supplied any details about the new Type R’s engine, but the old car (FB) had a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder Earth Dreams engine with 228kW (306hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft).
Power went to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission, and limited slip differential.
The new FC Honda Civic Type R goes on sale in Europe during the second half of 2017, and unlike earlier Euro-made Type R hatches, it will be coming to the USA.
