Ford is currently in discussions with the UAW about bringing the next-generation Ranger mid-size pickup to the US, with production at Wayne, Michigan.
Wayne currently builds Focus-based vehicles at the plant, including the hatch, sedan and C-Max. When the next generation Focus comes online, it will be built down south in Mexico. If the Ranger can brought in to replace the Focus and C-Max, the Wayne factory will not be closed.
The mid-size truck market has seen an uptick recently thanks to new versions of the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Toyota Tacoma hitting the scene.
The current T6 Ranger, as well as the related Everest SUV, was designed in Australia, but is built in Thailand, South Africa, Argentina and Kenya.
