The third generation Chevrolet Equinox is smaller, a lot lighter, and has an all turbo I4 engine lineup for the US, including a 1.6-liter turbo-diesel.
The new Chevrolet Equinox is almost 12cm (4.7 inches) shorter than the current SUV, and is lower too. Under the hood, there’s no longer the option of a 3-liter V6, with the engine lineup featuring 1.5 and 2-liter turbo gas engines.
Like the new Cruze, the Equinox will be available with a 1.6-liter turbo-diesel engine in the US. Front wheel drive is standard, all wheel drive is optional.
Based on the same platform as the new Chevrolet Cruze and Buick Envision, the 2018 Equinox is a lot lighter than the old SUV, down around 400 lb (180kg).
There’s 7- and 8-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot.
New safety tech includes surround view cameras, forward collision alert with following distance indicator, automatic city emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.
The new Chevrolet Equinox goes on sale in the US during Q1 2017.
