The new McLaren 570S Spider bucks the trend towards of soft top convertibles, and has a retractable hardtop that takes 15s to open or close.
The roof can operated at speeds up to 40km/h (25mph). The Spider weighs 46kg (101 lb) more than the coupe, but has the same level of structural rigidity.
The Spider’s auto rear wing extends 12mm (0.5 inches) higher to compensate for the different body shape.
There’s the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 with 419kW (562hp) and 600Nm (443 lb-ft), and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. It has a 0-100km/h time of 3.2s, and a 328km/h (204mph) top speed, which are identical to the coupe.
With the roof down, the top speed drops to 315km/h (196mph).
The McLaren 570S Spider debuts at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, starting June 29. The 570S Spider has a price of £164,750 (US$212,800) in the UK, and the first 400 cars will be Launch Edition models.
