2017 Dodge Viper orders halted, FCA assessing how many more to make

Dodge has paused ordering for the 2017 Viper, as FCA tries to figure out how many more V10 coupes it should make before closing the Conner Avenue plant.

The 2017 model year will be final one for the Dodge Viper, and FCA has no plans to extend it for another model year.

The pause in ordering was prompted by one dealer, Gerry Wood Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Salisbury, NC, who ordered 135 Vipers.

Brad Wood, the dealership’s general manager, told The Detroit News, “I took a gamble. We don’t know how it’s going to work out.”

FCA told The Detroit News, “[We are] currently studying just how many more Vipers can be built. Ordering is still closed for all Viper models. Again, the ordering system will be re-opened, but the timing on when that will happen is still to be determined.”
