The new 2017 Chevrolet Cruze diesel sold in the US and Canada from later this year will be available with either a 6-speed auto or a 6-speed manual.
The first generation Chevrolet Cruze came with a old 2-liter turbo with 151hp (113kW) and 264 lb-ft (358Nm). The new car will have a new 1.6-liter diesel shared with the Opel/Vauxhall Astra.
The new 1.6-liter 4-cylinder diesel has 136hp (101kW) and 275 lb-ft (373Nm).
Paul Hewitt, a product manager with GM Canada, told GM Inside News that while the first-gen Chevrolet Cruze diesel was offered in just one trim with one transmission, the new Cruze diesel will be available in both sedan and hatch bodies, and be available in all trim levels except the top Premier trim.
The new Cruze diesel will aim to lure buyers who previously bought the Volkswagen Golf diesel. These buyers want frugality, don’t mind changing their own gears, but also want luxury items like alloy wheels and leather trim.
Pricing and specifications have not yet been announced for the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze diesel.
