It’s official, the BMW i3’s new 94A/33kWh lithium ion battery has been given an official EPA range rating of 114mi (183km) on a full charge.
That’s an improvement of almost 41 percent over the pre-update BMW i3, which had a 60Ah battery and had a range rating of 81mi (130km).
The EPA range rating uses mixed driving conditions, and has the climate control air conditioning system turned on.
On the downside, the larger 94Ah battery takes 4.5 hours to fully recharge, whereas the old unit only took 3.5 hours. The i3 also weighs 270 lb (122kg) more than before, which means that its 0-60mph time is actually slower at 8 seconds.
The BMW i3’s electric motor remains unchanged with a rating of 170hp (127kW) and 184 lb-ft (249Nm).
