The new front wheel drive BMW 1-Series will be, for the time being, built and sold exclusively in China by BMW and Brilliance, its Chinese partner.
The styling of the new BMW 1-Series sedan is based on the Concept Compact Sedan that was unveiled at the 2015 Guangzhou Auto Show.
Although the company hasn’t explicitly stated that it is a front wheel drive car, the proportions and mentions of the 2-Series Active Tourer and the new FWD/AWD X1 hint highly in that the 1-Series sedan is based on the same UKL platform shared with Mini.
BMW has yet to state when the new 1-Series sedan will go on sale in China, or which engines it will feature, but the turbo 1.5-liter 3-cylinder and 2-liter 4-cylinder engines used in other BMW and Mini cars.
