The new Audi SQ7 features a 4-liter V8 diesel with the world’s first electric turbo or, more correctly, compressor.
Under the hood the multi-turbocharged 4-liter V8 develops 320kW (435hp) and 900Nm (664 lb-ft) between 1,000 and 3,250rpm, and has a fuel consumption rating of 7.4L/100km (31.8 US mpg); CO2 output is rated at 194g/km.
The SQ7 can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250km/h.
The engine features two sequential turbochargers, one that works at low and intermediate engines speeds, and the other at higher RPM. Both are assisted by an electrically driven compressor. Powered by the car’s 48V electrical subsystem, the compressor can deliver maximum boost in under 250 milliseconds and spin at up to 70,000rpm.
The 48V system includes 48V lithium ion battery under he trunk floor, and can work to support the regular 12V system that powers the car’s other electronics.
The SQ7 is available in both 5 and 7 seat configurations. Options include LED matrix headlights.
